We Have Always Been Here: Opening Reception
Northern Door Pride and the Ephraim Historical Foundation are excited to announce the Foundation's Anderson Barn Museum will be hosting the Wisconsin Historical Society's travelling exhibit, We Will Always Be Here: Wisconsin's LGBTQ+ Historymakers in the month of June to celebrate Pride Month.
We Will Always Be Here explores the stories of Wisconsin's LGBTQ+ historymakers through profiles of eight individuals across a wide spectrum of identities who have helped to empower others and to make a positive change in the world.
We will be serving light refreshments and food, offering brief remarks, and celebrating the diversity which makes Door County the community it is. Learn more about this exhibit at wihist.org/LGBTQexhibit.

Makin’ Cake
In “Makin’ Cake,” Dasha Kelly Hamilton slices into American history to explore race, culture, and class in a refreshing and fun way. “Makin’ Cake” is storytelling in layers, filled with aha moments, poignant vignettes, and digital media. A duo of onstage bakers support Kelly Hamilton, 2021 Wisconsin Poet Laureate and Milwaukee Artist of the Year, as she digs deep into the past and present. Part history lesson, part social science revelation, “Makin’ Cake” is a short story about America’s sweet tooth and pathway to salvation, leaving room for both dialogue and dessert with a cake reception immediately following the performance.
The EHF is a major sponsor of this special event, which will be attended by Gibraltar 9-12 students. Purchase tickets by phoning 920-868-2728 or visit dcauditorium.org. Senior ticket discount available. Ask about the 1:00 PM Friday matinee show too, which will be attended by Gibraltar 9-12 students.
Holiday Traditions
Scandinavian Holiday Traditions Wednesday, December 13, 11 AM - 12 Noon, Ephraim Historical Foundation (3060 Anderson Lane). Discover Nordic traditions including the tomten, Yule Goat, Saint Lucy, Albeskiver pancakes, and more! Enjoy December excerpts from historic Ephraim diaries. Cookbook Swap
The Ephraim Public Library and the Ephraim Historical Foundation are holding a cookbook swap! Drop by the Ephraim Public Library (9996 Water St.), bring a cookbook, and swap it for a new one!
There will also be coffee, sweet treats, and stories on the history of Ephraim cooking.

Dearly Departed Cemetery Walk
The past comes to life in this annual event hosted by the Ephraim Moravian Church with support from the Ephraim Historical Foundation. Free to the public. Donations appreciated and will benefit cemetery improvements. Refreshments will be serviced in the church following the walk.
The 2023 Dearly Departed program features Marvin Hansen (portrayed by Laird Hart), Johanna Ohman (portrayed by Karen Ekberg), and Alberta Seiler Kaminsky (portrayed by Linda Carey). Bonus Station Meet the wives of the four Wilson brothers: Kay (CiCi Mulliken); Petie (Sherry Moore); Verna (Mary Wilson); and Lil (Gunilla Wilson).

Morning Walk from Olga Dana Green
Meet at the Olga Dana Green green space, just across from the Ephraim Visitor Information Center. This mile-long “loop” walking tour answers questions like who was Olga Dana? And, which nearby buildings did notable architect William Bernhard design? Also included - a jaunt up to Moravia St to view the Niagara Escarpment and identify a few seasonal wildflowers. Rolling terrain, moderate hiking.
History Chat: SS Carolina with Jim Baye
A hundred years ago, tourists arrived in Ephraim via the SS Carolina with Captain McGarity at the helm. Learn about the Goodrish steamship SS Carolina from local historian Jim Baye. See a few rare items from his Carolina Collection. Several EHF artifacts will be on display too. Interactive discussion guaranteed!

History Chat: The Moravians - the People, the Place & the Church
“Moravians” established the Village of Ephraim in 1853, but who were they why did they travel across the world to the wilds of Door County? Presenter George Drost will take guests on a trip through time, from Czech theologian Jan Hus, to Andreas and Laurenze Iverson, to contemporary artist Joža Uprka. Drost will share his own father’s story of immigration, necessitated by political events in 1948.

Harmony in the Harbor: Ukulele Sing-along Concert
The EHF welcomes the Ukulele Society of Door County for an hour of catchy sing-along songs and toe-tapping fun. Bring your own chair. Rain? The concert will take place at the Ephraim Village Hall.

History Chat: Civilian Conservation Corps in Peninsula State Park
DROP-IN anytime from 10 AM to 1 PM to see photos and memorabilia from Civilian Conservation Corps Camp Peninsular, including the footlocker of Cooney Fish! This Depression-era work group was located behind Gibraltar School, 1935-37. Bonus: EHF youth volunteers and Schoolhouse Teacher Pauline Larson (circa late 1800s), plus a few monarch caterpillars, will be on hand for extra fun! Free to the public, suitable for all ages.
